We had our first parent-teacher conference, which took about 15 minutes. From the teacher's assessment, Miya is on par and maybe a little ahead. Miya was able to do sound out all the letters of the alphabet and even got the lower case "g" in times roman (tricky)! So proud of my little girl. The teacher definitely recognized that Miya was one of the shy kids in the class and will work on her volunteering more during class. Outside of the shyness, Miya is able to focus, follow instructions, no issues overall.
Now that we have officially eliminated naps, Miya gets tired and it shows towards the end of the day. Little things set her off, especially if she doesn't get her way or if Max (accidentally) does something to her. The whining... the whining is too much. We are having discussions about her ability to maintain her emotions and should not cry at everything because she is not in preschool anymore. Crying at everything is for little kids, but now you're a big kid in K, it is time to learn to stop crying at every little thing.
Some of the after school activities enrolled for Miya is swimming and gymnastics. Grandma is taking her to gymnastics because I'm not sure what do to with her for 2 hours until I get home from work. Miya gets bored easily. Grandma does not like gymnastics because of the high risk of injury, especially all the tumbling on the floor. I tried to comfort grandma and remind her that little kids are VERY limber. Swimming is the other activity, and has started to jump i the water with confidence. It has been about a year since her first swim lesson and she has come along way, where her first class was not even facing her instructor and not getting her face wet.
Max continues to enjoy preschool, which is a huge relief now that Miya is no longer there. I think we are done with potty training, he finally stopped making accidents at school. His speech, is developing as well with longer sentences and learning his alphabet. As for numbers, he is solid with 1-10 and no longer forgetting 4. Max is learning to put his shoes on, which slows down troy in the morning, but you got to let him learn and not discourage him. The friends he made at preschool have transitioned to the downstairs (panda) class, so he is having to make new friends again. Max doesn't seem to mind and is proud to tell me about his new friends. We are learning to say "no thank you," instead of a strong "NNNOOOOO!" Similar to Miya, he is now sleeping with a night light, definitely does not like a dark room.
